MINISTRY OF EDUCATION SIGNS MOU WITH THE CHAMBER OF CRAFTS FLENSBURG GERMANY

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Wednesday, April 03, 2024: The Ministry of Education and the Chamber of Crafts Flensburg, Germany have agreed to support the advancement of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) across the Federation. This collaboration was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “TVET development between St. Kitts and Nevis and the Chamber of Crafts, Flensburg, Germany”.

The MoU signing took place at the office of the Deputy Prime Minister on Wednesday, April 03 between the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley and Ms. Celina Niehoff, International Affairs Coordinator at the Chamber of Crafts Flensburg.

Also present to witness the signing were, the Prime Minister’s representative, Mr. Glenroy Blanchette, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office; Mrs. Lisa Pistana, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Dr. Kertney Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, St. Kitts and Nevis TVET Secretariat.

Dr. Hanley expressed gratitude for the opportunities of partnership and shared, “This is something that our Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew would have spoken about several times in terms of the partnership, which is also a concept in the theme [Transforming Education Through Self Renewal, Holistic Partnerships and Digital Solutions], we are using for the next seven years in the Ministry of Education. We welcome your partnership. The Memorandum of Understanding is really going to benefit our people by giving them an opportunity to explore while giving back to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. We are extremely grateful for this partnership.”

Sharing sentiments Ms. Niehoff expressed, “I am very happy to be here, and I am looking forward to establishing the project or relationship and a good working corporation. My CEO is very excited and passionate about this project. We have already started to publish it on our channels and our networks. We are working with several schools together in the vocational training part and we [Handwerkskammer Flensburg University] are also working with about 11,000 companies in the CRAFT Sector.”

Ms. Niehoff’s visit to the Federation includes site visits and conferences with students and faculty members at both AVEC and CFBC and the Maintenance Department of the Joseph N. France General Hospital
