TAIWANESE ANNUAL MONETARY SCHOLARSHIP IN ACADEMIC ADVANCEMENT

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Nonday, December 02, 2024: Over 170 students from both secondary and tertiary level education institutions in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis were recipients of a Monetary Scholarship from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The annual handing over ceremony was held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Auditorium.

The distribution of the scholarships exemplified the pledge and support to the development of the Federations’ Human Resources by the government and people of Taiwan.

Resident Ambassador to The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency, Micheal Chau-Horng Lin stated, “Over the years the government of Taiwan has been committed to the sponsorship of this human resource development project. Through the co-orporation between the Governments of St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan, this annual project has successfully provided scholarships to the students and support teaching and learning resources which facilitated a more encouraging and learning environment for not only the students but also for the schools’ faculty in the Federation. This year with our support in US dollar $120,000.00 we are confident that this project will continue to contribute to the development of human resources and education and enhance the welfare of all Kittitians and Nevisians.”

Ambassador Lin revealed an increase in the availability of tertiary education scholarships to citizens, “The Government of Taiwan also provides scholarships each year for studying in Universities in Taiwan. This year 16 students from St. Kitts and Nevis travelled to Taiwan and are currently studying in Universities in Taiwan. It is my great pleasure to announce that next year [2025] we will have openings for 25 students who wish to pursue higher education in Taiwan.”

Minister of Education Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley commented on the significance of the ceremony and lauded the ROC for its generosity and its steadfast support and assistance to the development of our nation’s human resource.

“This moment symbolizes the transformative power of education and the profound impact of international cooperation in the lives of our young scholars. The scholarships we are awarding today are not just financial aid, they represent opportunities. Opportunities for our students to pursue their dreams, to excel in their studies, and to contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond. These scholarships represent hope for our students; empowering them to pursue education while limiting their financial constraints. It is an investment in their potential, their aspirations and their future.”
