MOE HOSTS DRAMA WORKSHOP IN COLLABORATION WITH TRING PARK SCHOOL FOR PERFORMING ARTS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Tuesday, February 25, 2025: The Ministry of Education hosted a drama workshop facilitated by Mr. Edward Applewhite, Director of the Acting Course and Head of Drama of the Tring Park School for Performing Arts, Hertfordshire England.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the drama club was made possible through the efforts of Mr. Lionel Wallace, Deputy Lieutenant (former High Sheriff of Hertfordshire), along with H.E. Kevin Isaac, High Commissioner to the IMO St. Christopher and Nevis High Commission in the United Kingdom.

As a patron of St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Wallace also secured a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the British Caribbean Chamber of Commerce and the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Supported by the St. Kitts and Nevis High Commission in London, the MOU serves as a platform for collaboration, idea exchange, and joint events in sectors such as renewable energy, agri-business, digital, cultural, and tourism, as well as other mutually agreed areas.

Mr. Lionel Wallace explained,

“This cultural collaboration has been formed as the first project between Tring Park School for Performing Arts coming to work with the Ministry of Education here in St. Kitts and Nevis. Drama is a tremendous skill for building competence among young people who are really keen on that, and we are delighted to see this vision come to pass with respect to what’s happening now in St. Kitts.”

Edward Applewhite and his team designed an engaging curriculum for the workshop, covering various aspects of drama, including improvisation, stage presence, and script interpretation. Through interactive sessions, participants gained hands-on experience and valuable insights into the world of performing arts.

Mr. Applewhite shared, “The benefit of more drama in school is the fact that it instills a degree of self-confidence and teamwork.”

He further expressed his appreciation for the high level of enjoyment he witnessed among participants.

The Ministry of Education welcomed this collaboration as a significant step toward enriching arts education in the Federation. The drama workshop left a lasting impact, inspiring local students to explore their creative potential while strengthening international educational ties.
