Basseterre, St. Kitts, Tuesday, April 1, 2025: The St. Kitts and Nevis TVET Council (SKNTVETC), in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), hosted an opening ceremony for the Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) Workshop on Monday, March 31, 2025.
The ceremony marked the commencement of four days of training designed to equip participants with skills to develop a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum tailored for St. Kitts and Nevis.
Dr. Kertney Thompson, CEO, TVET Secretariat, delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of curriculum development.
“This is a real dynamic group that we have worked to put together to ensure that we have the capacity to develop TVET curriculums here in St. Kitts and Nevis. Let us work collaboratively. Let us put forth every effort we can to ensure that we can build this capacity locally.”
Mrs. Lisa Romayne-Pistana, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, delivered brief remarks.
“This workshop is a testament to our shared vision of equipping learners with practical, relevant, and future-focused skills that meet the demands of the modern workforce. Over the course of this workshop, you will dive deep into the principles of competency-based education, explore innovative strategies for curriculum design, and exchange ideas that will sharpen your collective approach. The goal is to ensure that when we leave this room, we are not just informed but inspired and empowered to implement these frameworks effectively.”
Mrs. Pistana also expressed gratitude to the facilitator for her meaningful contribution.
“I would like to thank Maureen Souply, our trainer, for taking time to be with us today and imparting her knowledge.”
The DACUM Workshop promises to provide hands-on training and collaborative discussions on curriculum development strategies.
