Basseterre: St. Kitts, Monday, November 18, 2024: Early childhood educators from both the public and private sector met at the Industrial Site Daycare Center on Thursday November 14 to participate in the third week of the training sessions hosted by the Early Childhood Development Unit.
Week three illuminated the benefits to students and the entire teaching and learning process through interactive discussions from how students communicate to conflict resolution strategies amongst the early learners.
Under the capable guidance of Ms. Julianna Powell Resource Teacher in the Early Childhood Development Unit, the educators were able to navigate various ways in which students may express themselves either verbally or non-verbally.
Ms. Seanecia Herbert Teacher’s Assistant from the Old Road Daycare Center gave feedback, “This week’s workshop session on communication was very informative. It helped me to understand the ways in which children communicate, such as verbal and non-verbal. The session also helped me to understand how some of the techniques which I’ve been using within my classroom aligns with the expectations of the Unit. I also gained a more in depth understanding of how my students share their interests and expectations.”
Resource teacher in the Early Childhood Development Unit, Ms. Yasmain Powell instructed educators on the appropriate course of action that may be implemented to diffuse conflict amongst the early learners within their classrooms.
Ms. Natalie Francis, Assistant Supervisor for the St. Paul’s Daycare Center reflected on the session. “Today’s workshop was mostly based on conflict resolution within the classroom. This workshop served as a ‘refresher’ exercise for me as I was in the classroom before. What I learnt today, I will impart to the teachers which will enable them to effectively dispense with any disagreement between students. Conflict resolution is something that we all have to deal with on a regular basis. Thus, today’s workshop has re-enlightened me to problem solving ways.”
