CTCS CELEBRATES WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Monday, March 24, 2025: The Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School culminated its celebration of Down Syndrome Week on Friday, March 21 [World Down Syndrome Day] with a dynamic motorcade through the city center in St. Kitts. Onlookers and participants donned their multicolored socks in support of individuals with down syndrome.

World Down Syndrome Day has been observed globally by the United Nations since 2012. According to https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org ‘the 21st day of the 3rd month was chosen to represent the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes down syndrome.’

The annual celebration of this day aims to raise awareness and understanding on down syndrome while encouraging inclusion and striving to minimize discriminatory practices towards individuals with down syndrome.
