Basseterre, St. Kitts, Wednesday, May 06, 2026: The Ministry of Education has officially commenced training for school bus drivers as part of preparation for the introduction of newly acquired electric school buses.
The training is aimed at ensuring that drivers are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills required to operate modern electric vehicles safely and efficiently. It also forms part of the broader transition toward cleaner and more technologically advanced student transportation services.
The initiative comes as the education sector prepares to integrate two new electric buses donated by the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), which will be used to enhance the safe and reliable transport of students across St. Kitts.
The training covers key areas such as vehicle operation, charging procedures, safety protocols, and the use of onboard monitoring systems. Drivers are also being introduced to the technological features of the buses, which allow for real-time tracking and performance monitoring.
The introduction of the electric buses, alongside the driver training initiative, reflects ongoing efforts to modernize education support services while promoting environmental responsibility and operational efficiency in St. Kitts and Nevis.
